Clothes moths are a troublesome pest as they are destructive when you have them and they are challenging to get rid of. The key to success in getting rid of clothes moths is to be extremely thorough.
Step 1 The larvae of clothes moths are most commonly found in clothes and carpets. The first step is to inspect clothing for moths and their larvae. Infested clothing should be washed on a hot wash above 120oF, this will kill all stages of insect life. Clothes that can not stand a hot wash may be wrapped in a plastic bag and placed in the freezer as sub zero temperatures also kill moths. If neither of the two options is viable dry cleaning will also kill the moths.
Step 2 Once the clothes are out of the room, open all drawers and wardrobe doors and activate a Strikeback Insect Killing Fogger in the room. One fogger is sufficient to treat moths in a room that is approximately 5m x 3m. The insecticidal fog gets almost everywhere and will kill any moths it comes in contact with. Follow the instructions carefully that are supplied with the fumer and you will be on your way to getting rid of the moths.
Step 3 Once the room has been fully ventilated, apply a fine mist of Strikeback Insect Killing Spray to the wardrobes, drawers, mattress, bed frame and the carpet, including 50-60 cm from the perimeter inward of the underside of the carpet. Be sure to test spray a part of hidden carpet first to ensure that the colours are not affected by the spray. Once dry the insecticide may be effective for up to 4 weeks.
Step 4 Finally, place the clothes moth traps (which contain a pheromone that attract the moths) in areas that you are finding the pest activity and monitor regularly for further clothes moth activity. If you identify additional activity repeat the process every 3-4 weeks until the pests are gone.
Comprehensive instructions for use are supplied with all the pest control products.
Always read the label before use.
